Propecia is used to treat male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of head) and anterior mid-scalp area in men. For most men, Propecia increases the number of scalp hairs in the first 12 months of treatment, helping to fill in thin or balding areas of the scalp. In addition, it may help slow hair loss. Results of Propecia use vary. Generally, Propecia will not cause men to grow back all the hair they have lost. Propecia has not been proven to help in the treatment of receding hairline in the temporal area on both sides of the head. Propecia Side Effects

Side effects of Propecia use are generally mild. Inform a doctor immediately if you experience skin rash or lip swelling (symptoms of toxicity). There is a very low chance of sexual side effects, which include decrease in sexual desire, difficulty achieving an erection, and a decrease in the amount of semen. These effects go away by themselves when the man stops taking Propecia.

Propecia Proper Usage

Take one tablet by mouth once per day, with or without food. Propecia is a long-term treatment. Since hair is regained slowly, you may need to use Propecia for more than three months before you start noticing its effects. However, if twelve months have passed and the drug has not had any effect yet, it probably never will and treatment should be stopped. If you stop taking Propecia, you will likely lose the hair you have gained within the following 12 months. Consult a doctor about your options.

Propecia Proper Storage

Keep in the original container and keep the container closed. Store in a dry place at room temperature.

Propecia Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Propecia, take it as soon as you remember, but do not take it if it is already close to the time for the next dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and take only the next one as scheduled. Avoid taking a double dose.

Propecia Warnings

Propecia tablets contain an active ingredient that can be absorbed through the skin. Each tablet is coated to protect the person handling it, but broken tablets (with the coating damaged) should be handled with caution. Propecia is approved for men only. Propecia must not be used by women who are or might be pregnant, since it may cause a specific kind of birth defect. Women should also avoid handling tablets that are crushed or broken, as the active ingredient may be absorbed through the skin and cause damage to the unborn baby.
